Summer 2 Extreme Earth

- Week 1 -

In English, we have been reading the book 'Stone Girl Bone Girl' a story about palaeontologist Mary Anning.

In Geography, we have started our new topic EXTREME EARTH. We learnt about the different layers that make up our planet Earth and created our own models to show the inner and outer core, the mantle and the crust.

- Week 2 -

In Geography, we have been learning about how the outer layer of the earth, the crust, is broken up into pieces called tectonic plates. We completed our own tectonic plate jigsaw and learnt about the different ways in which these tectonic plates can interact.

- Week 3 -

In Maths, we have been using a bar model to find unit and non-unit fractions of an amount. Remember - divide by the bottom, times by the top!

In Guided Reading, we are read 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes.

- Week 4 -

In Maths, we have been practising recognising coins and notes and finding the total. We will be using this knowledge to calculate the change needed and to solve other money problems! Here are some fun games to practise counting coins.

Coin Cruncher                       Coins Game                 Toy Shop Money Game           Money Problems

- Week 5 -

The Aslans enjoyed showing off their musical talents in the summer violin showcase.  Here are a few snippets from the fantastic performance.

We have enjoyed reading books which have been nominated for the Sheffield Children's Book Award. Whilst they were all funny tales with important messages, the voting revealed 'Gigantic' to be the winner in Aslans class.

In Science, we have been learning about the properties of different rocks and how they form. We learnt about igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.
