Design and Technology
This term we have have been looking at the different ways that we can keep our body healthy, in DT we have been looking at healthy eating and making our very own fruit salad. We started by sorting different foods into good for our body and bad for our body. Next we took part in a taste test, trying out 6 different fruits, everyone tried every piece and gave it a rating, at the end we voted to choose the Chameleons' favourite fruit.
George Saves the World by Lunchtime
We started this half term reading 'George Saves the World by Lunchtime' a story about a young boy who wants to be a superhero, his Grandad helps him in his mission by teaching him different ways to save the environment.
We looked at lots of different ways that we could help the environment ourselves thinking about the 4 R's 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repair'. In the classroom we pretended to be diggers working in a recycling plant, we helped to save sea creatures by collecting rubbish and reused old recycling in the junk modelling area.
We ended our time looking at George Saves the World by Lunchtime by making posters to educate everyone in school about different ways to help save the planet.
Supertato
We continued to look at superheroes as we read Supertato, a supermarket hero who tries to stop the Evil Pea.
Potato printing
To celebrate fathers day we made superhero cards using potato prints. Carefully we got paint all over the potato and then held it firmly on the card, next we used a smaller potato to make a superhero cape.
Evil Pea
Twice over the week Evil Pea snuck inside the Chameleons classroom and trapped our very own Supertato. We had to find and then free Supertato, and then we set out making traps so that we could catch the Evil Pea once and for all. To alert the rest of the school we created wanted posters with a drawing of the Evil Pea and written descriptions of what he looks like.
Maths
This half term the Chameleons have been mastering our number compositions. We have been looking at lots of different ways that we can make numbers up to 10. Using 10 frames, rekenreks, our fingers and resources we can find in the class room, we have been experimenting with different numbers.
Odd and Even
We revisited odd and even numbers, we built different numbers using cubes making sure that they were built in columns of two. We knew that even numbers had flat tops, and odd numbers didn't have flat tops, using this knowledge we sorted different numbers into odd and even. When we finished we were surprised to find out that all the even numbers were the same as our doubles.
Staying Healthy
As we prepare to enter year 1 and start to become more independent we need to know the different ways to keep our body healthy. In PSED we are looking at different parts of our life and the choices we can make to stay healthy.
Exercise
The Chameleons brainstormed as many different ways that we could exercise before talking about why it is good for our body. We said that exercise allows us to strengthen our body making our bones stronger and also helping our heart. We tried feeling our heart rate using our wrist, neck and putting our hand on our chest, we then completed a workout video before checking our heart rate again, we all spotted that our heart was beating faster after exercise.
Class Wide Reward
The Chameleons managed to get to 40 class wide reward points and voted on their reward, we chose to have a Teddy Bear's Picnic. Everyone brought in their favourite Teddy Bear and we sat up on the hill with them. Going round the circle we learnt every Teddy's name and said hello before going off to read our chosen story with our Teddy and our snack.
