BIG
and Small
We have been looking at animals that are Big and Small and sorting them both in our Maths sessions and on our investigation table. We have also been reading a book called 'The Selfish Crocodile' in this story we saw a small animal taking care of a big animal.
The key theme in the book is that the Crocodile has a bad, painful tooth. It shows how important it is for us to brush and take care of our teeth.
The children were super learning the teeth brushing song and showing each other how they can brush their own teeth.
The children have then had fun looking at teeth and practising their brushing techniques.
We also used our Art skills to mix colours to paint our own Selfish Crocodile.

Linking very nicely to our current topic Amazing Animals, the children have been learning about Chinese New Year.
They have enjoyed listening to stories, taking part in Chinese dancing and exploring how to use chopsticks.
We have talked about the importance of the colour red and the giving of gifts of money and how this celebration is similar to others that the children are familiar with. The children have been painting hand print rabbits and talking about the different animals that represent each year.

Dear Zoo
We began our new topic story this week 'Dear Zoo' The children have been great listeners and were super at remembering the different animals that were in the story.
Why not ask them if they can remember any?
This week in our creative area we have been making Parrots. We have enjoyed learning new words to describe them and thinking about how they are different to the other animals we have looked at so far.

Spring
Once again we have hit the ground running in Elmers for the Spring term. We hope everyone has had a fabulous Christmas and wish all a Happy New Year!
Our new topic is 'Amazing Animals'. We will be learning lots of new vocabulary this term to help us describe a range of different animals and enjoying some well loved books beginning with,
Rumble In The Jungle
Alongside learning about amazing animals we also continue to have fun being creative, dressing up, painting, creating, singing and generally enjoying life in Nursery!
