Summer 1

In Athletics we practised all the skills which we had learnt over this half term.

Forest School

This term we measured sticks with rulers, we made characters from the storm whale out sticks, we made an aerial view of a map with sticks and leaves and we conducted a traffic survey.

We had a special visitor this week.

Class Wide Reward

After earning 100 class wide rewards we all voted to have a sports celebration. We played football, basketball and had lots of fun in the sun.

Computing

We have been using the programme Scratch to code. We have learnt how to change the background and even made a mini quiz using our fantastic coding skills.

We made our quiz a little longer and made the sprite move when they got the correct answer.

Maths

We learnt about units of measure. We learnt how to use a measuring beaker and we made some potions.

Science

This week, we looked at bean seeds. We soaked them in water and then peeled it. We looked at in detail with magnifying glasses.

P.E

We learnt how to sit in the yoga position. After we learnt some yoga poses and learnt how to control our breathing.

English

After writing our own version of the Owl and the Pussy Cat, we then performed it to the each other.

Athletics

We have been learning different skills for different athletic events. This week we worked o our long jump skills.

We learnt about throwing for accuracy. We had a carousel of activities and at each activity, we had to hit a target with a ball of a bean bag.

Guided Reading

We read the book The Huddle and made some freeze frames. We performed our freeze frames whilst other people guessed which page it was from.

We read the book Egg Box Dragon and then we acted some pages out from the story.

After we read the Egg Box Dragon, we used our reading skills to read instructions and make our own Egg Box Dragon.

R.E

Mr Wilcock and Mr Davies kindly held an assembly all about Holy Week for Christians. The Y2 children were excellent at sharing all the knowledge they had learnt in RE lessons regarding the Easter Story and why it is so important to Christians.

Geography

The Y2s were an absolute credit to the school on our trip to the Moorland Discovery Centre in the Peak District. We had a wonderful time following maps, making maps, exploring the hills and doing an orienteering course. Well done to all the children and thank you to the staff and volunteers.
