Summer 1 Groovy Greeks

Week 6

Well done to our Golden Book winners of the week. You are all super stars and we are extremely proud of you!

This week we have finished off our amazing Delita Martin inspired prints. We had an extremely busy afternoon combining all of the skills that we have learned in printing this term. We first mono-printed our Greek God or Goddess. We then designed both a print block and a print relief which we used as an overlay. Our artworks are incredible and look so professional! Please take a look!

Take a look at our amazing works of art!

This afternoon, we finished our PE unit of cricket with some mini games. We all had turns batting and fielding and tried our best to catch each other out or get as many runs as possible.

In English, we have started writing character descriptions about Medusa. We worked together to unscramble sentences to help build our understanding of sentence composition and punctuation.

In maths we have been learning about mass. We used the scales to weigh objects in our classroom.

In citizenship, we have been discussing E-safety and how to be safe online and in the wider world. We worked together to discuss every day responsibilities and who we could trust to help us with them.

Week 3

Well done to our Golden Book winners of the week. You are all super stars and we are extremely proud of you!

We received a reply from Cadburys from our letter asking them to stop using palm oil! We are very proud of ourselves for making a change and we used the £2 voucher that they sent us to buy some palm oil free cookies! We enjoyed these in the forest during our class wide reward celebration.

Our class wide reward was a lovely celebration in the sunshine! We enjoyed what felt like the first day of spring and took our books up to read in the orchard. We also played some role play games in the forest and had lots of competing restaurant chains.

in art this week we have been learning more printing skills. We made block prints using different materials. We also did some leaf printing in forest school.

In guided reading we have been continuing to read the Greek myths. This week we looked at a graphic novel style of book. We summarised the 12 tasks of Heracles in our own comics.

In writing, we have been working on writing persuasive letters to the fly to try and convince her not to enter the Spider's parlour. We worked together to make sure that we were sharing ideas and keeping our sentences clear and accurate.

GREEK DAY As part of our Greek Day, we looked at examples of Greek pottery and what they told us about the Olympics. We then created our our own Greek inspired pot designs using chalk, black paint and pastels!

We had a lovely time in the forest school taking part in a quiz about Greek Gods and Goddesses! We are now experts!

Week 2

Well done to our Golden Book winners of the week. You are all super stars and we are extremely proud of you!

We have started printing skills this week for our artwork focussing on printmaker, Delita Martin. We started with monoprinting and linked this with our work on Greek Myths by using images of the ferocious Minotaur!

How to mono-print, No sound, visual only.

Updated video can be found here -https://youtu.be/k5lcn69M0V8 How to mono print! You will need- a plastic or glass tile, block printing ink, roller, paper and masking tape. Only use a dab of ink at first, you can always add more. Roll out ink. You want a nice even layer of ink.

In English, we used Thesauruses to help us learn synonyms to describe the devious Spider in our Poem, The Spider and the Fly. Can you think of a synonym for devious?

In history we learned about the Trojan war and acted out the main events. It was fun using our bodies to make the horse!

A funny sketch describing the story behind the ancient greek myth of the abduction of Helen by Paris of Troy and the way the greeks used a wooden horse to invade the city of Troy.
