At Walkley Primary, we view Design and Technology as an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We ensure that the act of investigating and making something includes exploring and planning ideas, and evaluating and developing work. We do this best through a mixture of whole-class teaching and individual/group activities. Teachers encourage children to evaluate their own ideas and methods, and the work of others, and say what they think and feel about them.
At Walkley, we use The Projects on a Page scheme of work to plan and guide the delivery of the National Curriculum for D&T in an imaginative way. The scheme is based on universal principles of effective teaching and learning in D&T.
Each project includes all the key elements of:
