  • Cost of Living Crisis

Mon 28 Nov 2022 Mr Wallis

Millions of people are experiencing increases in the cost of living, including rises in petrol, food, and gas and electric charges. This has left many facing tough decisions about how to spend their money, and many others in need of advice and financial support to afford rent, fuel bills, and everyday items. Sheffield City Council have put the following list together which shows the resources available across Sheffield.

  • Children In Need Day at Walkley Primary School

Mon 21 Nov 2022 Mr Wallis

Throughout the week since Pudsey Bear came to meet the children in Breakfast Club and attend the EYFS / KS1 Golden Award Assembly the School Council have been selling Pudsey merchandise to pupils in school. The pupils sold out of the bands, ears and badges. Valuable work for the CIN charity.

Also, the School Council arranged a wonderful day at Walkley Primary School, raising awareness and money for a very important charitable cause. On Children In Need Day this year, pupils could attend school in colourful outfits; many choosing yellow clothes with spots!!

The activities throughout the day included an obstacle course live-stream for staff. The speediest member of staff was Miss Kendall. Congratulations!

At lunch time, children completed an obstacle course of their own. This was run brilliantly by the Y6 Sports Leaders; pupils had a great time! Pupils also had their faces painted whilst completing a treasure hunt or dancing to Mr Butler's dance anthems!

In class, pupils attempted to bounce ping pong balls into cups in a Pudsey Pong challenge and then relaxed as the Executive School Council and Class Representatives created a story time for our EYFS and KS1 pupils. There were also lots of arts and crafts in classrooms.

Throughout the day pupils were reminded of the charitable work of Children In Need and through a Moodbusters Class Session pupils' mental health and wellbeing was promoted.

Thank you School Council for organising such a wonderfully exciting and important day for everyone whilst raising a significant amount of money for a very good cause.

On the day you managed to raise an amazing £726.97

  • Anti-Bullying Week - Reach Out (in association with Kidscape)

Mon 14 Nov 2022 Mr Wallis

This morning Mr Wallis introduced the Anti-Bullying theme 'Reach Out' linked to 'What Makes A Good Friend?'

In our assembly the pupils were introduced to 3 activities to be built upon by further class discussion.

    Activity 1.

    Be kind to ourselves

Pupils use the drawing of a hand to capture something they are good at on each finger. Also, write something they would like to be better at on the thumb.

    Activity 2.

    The Gingerbread friend

What does friendship looks like. What words do you associate with a good friend? What happens if you fall out with others? How can you be a good friend? Write words and phrases around the Gingerbread friend that are associated with being a good friend.

    Activity 3

    The impact of words

Kindness costs nothing, Think about how kind words impact your feelings:

How does kindness make you feel?

How do kind words make us feel inside?

What emotions do we link to kindness?

    Also,

How does kindness make us view the world and surroundings?

Does kindness alter the way we walk; our faces?

Children will repeat this activity but thinking about the impact of unkind words.

We will share our ideas and findings at the next assembly on Monday 21st November.
