  • Walkley to benefit from Government funding for solar panels

Thu 20 Nov 2025 Mr Wallis

    Dear parents and carers

We are delighted that Walkley Primary School will be one of only three schools in Sheffield, two-hundred nationwide, to benefit from Great British Energy’s first project; putting rooftop solar panels on schools and hospitals.

Having solar panels on our new school building is something we have sought since securing DFE Funding 10 years ago. Installation will commence soon, in the Spring term.

This exciting investment in the Walkley Primary School community will support our commitment to sustainability and reduce our energy costs, allowing more resources to be invested directly into enriching teaching and learning. The new solar panels will provide our pupils with real-life opportunities to learn about renewable energy, climate action and sustainability.

With our warm community spirit, we are committed to giving our children the very best start, supporting them to be Golden citizens empowered to make a difference in life.

  • Anti-Bullying Week - Odd Socks Day - Wednesday 12th November

Mon 10 Nov 2025 Mr Wallis

This week (10 th – 14 th November) marks National Anti-Bullying week, with a theme this
year of ‘Power of Good’ and ‘Wear Odd Socks’ Day will be part of this week.

Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity to encourage people to express
themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique. There is no
pressure to wear the latest fashion or to buy expensive costumes. All you have to do to
take part is wear odd socks to school, it couldn’t be simpler.

Throughout this week, children will be having assemblies and taking part in activities
related to Anti Bullying Week with a specific link to our Walkley school values. This
morning’s assembly was about the power of push-ups and the dangers of push-downs.

Our children shared today that push-ups make them feel warm, proud, less self-
conscious, happy and respected, cared for, lucky, included and gave them a spark inside! A
great start to the week. Looking forward to seeing your socks on Wednesday.

  • Winter Fair – Friday 28th November’

Mon 03 Nov 2025 Mr Wallis

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Friends of Walkley are currently organising the school Winter Fair, which is due to take place on Friday 28th November. For this and other community events to take place, Friends of Walkley need EVERYONE’S support.

We are really looking forward to Winter Fair and the fair will run after school from 3.15pm to 5.00pm.

In order to help organise the fair, Friends of Walkley have organised that each year group will run a stall. One parent will help to co-ordinate this through parent groups – but you could also contact Mr Clements at school if you know you can help. If you can help for a short time, it is really appreciated.

If any parent/carer would like to be involved in the organisation of community events and experiences for the children at Walkley, please speak to Mr Clements, who can direct you to a member of the Friends of Walkley. We want to encourage and would welcome anyone who wants to join and together help support Walkley Primary School.

    We need:

    • Jars filled with small treats for the jar tombola – for this stall to be a success we need about 350 jars. If every child in school brought in a jar filled with small treats (nothing too expensive) we would have more than enough.
    • Donations of pre-wrapped bottles of Wine for the Water or Wine Game.
    • Christmas clothing – that you or your child(ren) has grown out of to make a Christmas clothing stall.
    • Second hand books/toys of GOOD quality for a book & bric-a-brac stall
    • Volunteers to bake cakes or other baked goods (please let Mr Clements know if you are planning to do this)
    • Any donations of raffle prizes

    We will also need:

    • General helpers to help on the refreshments – please either email Mr Clements below or contact anyone you know in Friends of Walkley who may be organising your year group stall.

Father Christmas will also be at the fair and there will be lots of fun stalls and refreshments.

There will also be a raffle – details to follow on how to purchase tickets.

Please contact Mr Clements at school if you can offer any support or help. You can contact him by emailing enquiries@walkley.sheffield.sch.uk.

    Many Thanks

Friends of Walkley and Walkley Primary School
