  • Burnaby Cub Comes to Life - Pride of Yorkshire

Thu 26 Mar 2026 Mr Clements

This summer, a pride of lions, lionesses and cubs will take to the streets of Yorkshire in aid of Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Walkley Primary School will be part of the little pride and help to raise vital funds to ensure the world-class care, investment in new facilities, equipment and research will continue to transform young lives.

On Monday 23rd March, all pupils took part in Lion Cub Day where our very own Burnaby Cub came to life. Each class came down to the front car park and stuck their Yorkshire leaves on to Burnaby. The pupils wrote and/or drew something on their leaf that they love about Yorkshire or that represents Yorkshire for them. We are incredibly lucky to have such talented pupils with some lovely designs added to their leaves.

At the start of the process, we sought the support of the artists within our school community to help put together a design concept that was inclusive for all the pupils at Walkley Primary School to be a part of. Throughout the design and creative process, Mr Wells has been a vital part in the creation of Burnaby Cub. A huge thank you to Mr Wells for all your support and help!

Burnaby will be delivered back to the charity on Friday to prepare for the summer trail.

Once we know where Burnaby Cub will be placed, we will share it with the Walkley Primary School community and expect to see lots of pictures when the pupils find Burnaby.

The guess the name of the teddies was won by a Y5 child and a Fs2 child and the winning names were Sunny and Cycro.

  • Great Big School Clean 2026

Thu 19 Mar 2026 Mr Clements

This year, Walkley Primary School Eco Council took part in Keep Britain Tidy's campaign; Great Big School Clean. The campaign runs from 13th March until 29th March and Walkley Primary have pledged to collect 10 bags full of litter from around the school site.

Last week, the Eco Council completed extra litter picking duties and all pupils have been encouraged to take responsibility for their own litter to ensure the school environment is litter free.

We wanted as many pupils to take part in the Great Big School Clean so during an assembly we encouraged everyone to complete their own litter-picks with family and friends around their local community. Over the weekend, there were lots of Walkley litter-heroes, who chose to help take care of our environment by doing a litter-pick. Super Work!!

So far, the pupils at Walkley Primary School have collected 6 bags of litter!!!

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all that have taken part and there is still time for you to get involved.

    Keep up the hard work!
