EAT THEM TO DEFEAT THEM IS BACK!
Walkley Primary School will be joining force with ITV and Veg Power to support the campaign to encourage children to eat more vegetables.
The initiative found that ‘80% of children don’t eat enough vegetables. Over 1 million children took part last year and more than half of their parents say that the children ate more vegetables as a result. Even 35% of parents with fussy eaters, who eat next to no vegetables, said their children ate more vegetables thanks to Eat Them to Defeat Them (ETTDT).
In school, each week we will have a ‘Veg of the week’ for children to try during Friday lunchtimes and everyone who gives it a go will receive a ETTDT sticker. This week, our veg of the week will be Broccoli. Each child will receive a mission pack to take home, which includes a reward chart and extra stickers to encourage them to eat more vegetables at home.
The ETTDT website: (https://eatthemtodefeatthem.com) and Simply Veg website (https://simplyveg.org.uk) is full of tips, advice, meals plans/recipes and fun things for the children to do. We would love to see some photos of any meals the children create at home from the ETTDT website and they could feature in our newsletter. These can be sent to enquiries@walkley.sheffield.sch.uk

World Book Day Friday 3rd March
Dear Parent / Carer,
We will be celebrating World Book Day in school on Friday 3rd March.
We will have a ‘Bedtime Story’ theme and are inviting children to come to school dressed as a character from a book or in their pyjamas. Please make sure that the children have appropriate footwear for the playground at lunchtimes. Children also have the opportunity to bring a book to share or talk about with the class that they enjoy reading before bed. Additionally, there will be some fun book-related activities going on during the school day!
On Friday, children will also receive a book token which can be used to purchase one of the specially produced World Book Day Books.
We can’t wait to see the children (and staff) in their outfits.
I’m sure, like us, you have been saddened by the news of the earthquakes that have impacted on so many lives in both Turkey and Syria. Reports say more than 41,000 people have been killed and thousands of children and families have been forced from their homes – exposing them to freezing winter temperatures and snowstorms.
We would like to invite children to come to school in non-uniform , tomorrow Friday 24th February and make a donation for doing so, either in cash or through Pay 360 using the link – Sims Pay 360.
Money, we raise will then be donated to the British Red Cross Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal. Their donations will provide support and aid which includes:
Thank you for your support,
The Walkley Team

The theme this year is “Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online”, and we would be delighted if you could join us in celebrating the day by continuing the conversation at home.
Online safety is an important issue which as a school we’re committed to teaching our pupils about. With this in mind we would like you to take part in the following google quiz. This will help us all understand what our pupils/children are using the internet for, and therefore what potential risks we can be ready to support our pupils/children with. Click on the link below to complete the quiz:
WPS – QUIZ FOR PUPILS TO COMPLETE WITH THEIR PARENTS
After the half term break, we will share the results of this quiz with you and provide the relevant information that supports our pupils with safe use of the internet.
