Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
It was such an exciting day on Friday when 200m British Champion Beth Dobbin came to Walkley. Beth worked with all the children in school from Y1 to Y6 and presented an assembly reflecting on her achievements, struggles and resilience. It was fantastic to be able to hear her life story and to hear of the effort required to become an elite athlete, even competing and beating her peers without an equal starting point. Did you know that earlier this year when Beth won the 200m British championships, she was racing against athletes who receive funding and therefore can train without the need to supplement earnings with a job? But not Beth, she was working many different jobs, with no funding and still managed to sprint through and beat her rivals.
Check out the race here:

Thanks for all your efforts Beth, it was really inspiring to meet you and the best of luck for the future.

In this afternoon's assembly, the Y3 pupils and Walkley's new staff were sorted into one of Walkley's four houses:
Loxley
Rivelin
Sheaf
Porter
Thanks to the Sorting Hat, pupils and staff can now contribute to the success of their chosen house. House points are collected and collated on a Friday and the winning team is announced in the KS2 Golden Award Assembly on Friday afternoons.
Walkley are very pleased to inform you that on the morning of 21st September we will be hosting a famous athlete. Her name is Beth Dobbin and she currently holds the British record for the women’s 200m sprint! On this morning, she will be spending time with each class and doing some exercise. Then, she will do a whole school assembly informing the children about herself, her experiences and how to lead a healthy lifestyle.
During the morning, Beth will be conducting 4 different exercises with the children to see how many of each exercise they can do in 1 minute. A sponsor form is attached for you to fill out and help raise money for these exercises. Beth’s aim is to inspire and give tips on how to succeed in every aspect of life including teamwork, responsibility, communication and creativity. The money raised will partly go to supporting fund the athletes living, training and travel costs along with 60% of the money raised going back into school.
Hello to all our pupils and parents, we hope you've had a fabulous, restful summer. Just a reminder that today is a Curriculum Training Day for staff. School is closed for pupils.
We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday.
