  • Hallé Orchestra Trip to Sheffield City Hall

Fri 06 Mar 2020 Mr Wallis

What a truly amazing trip KS2 had the chance to participate in today. We travelled to Sheffield City Hall to hear the Hallé Orchestra perform 10 pieces of music. It was truly inspirational and so cleverly put together. Each piece of music Hallé included in their set was accompanied by a picture or illustration that matched the mood of the music.

During the set, the pupils from Walkley and all the other schools in attendance joined the orchestra to sing Believe by Lin Marsh. Wow, amazing. Here is a snippet:

As always, the pupils were fabulously behaved and everyone had a great time.

  • Walkley Primary School new build update 14/02/20

Fri 14 Feb 2020 Mr Wallis

We continue to see excellent progress this week with the completion of the haulage road, the commencement of piling foundations and the completion of the site compound.

On site you will have seen a very impressive piling rig. This construction machine is being used for piling in foundation engineering. Installing a bored pile starts with drilling a vertical hole into the soil in the all-weather pitch, using a bored piling machine. Once the hole is drilled, a structure of reinforcing steel, which has been made off site, will be lowered into the hole, then the hole is filled with concrete. Altogether there are 101 piling holes to drill and fill with steel and concrete to hold up the new school building. Interserve's sub-contractors have already drilled 17 this week.

Interserve have established their site compound for the construction team so there will be some changes forthcoming at the top of the haulage road over the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see how the site has developed over the half term holiday.

Once again, thank you for your patience during the construction of our new school. If you have comments, queries or concerns, do please contact Interserve directly at jack.broomhead@interserve.com or alternatively you can contact us at enquiries@walkley.sheffield.sch.uk to pass on your messages.

Here are some pictures of the developments this week.
