Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Dear parents/carers
We are open. Please take care on your way to school this morning, the pavements particularly, are icy and slippy. We are looking forward to seeing you all soon.
Dear parents and carers,
It appears, thankfully, that the thaw has begun. This afternoon, Mr Butler has been at school assessing the site and preparing for opening tomorrow. We have also received information from staff and parents living nearby school and are confident that we can welcome staff and pupils back to school tomorrow. We appreciate how frustrating the school closure on Thursday and Friday must have been, and thank you for your support and understanding of the decision.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
Any unexpected change overnight will be reported in the usual way through text message, email, twitter, the school website, Local Authority website and local media.
If you did not receive texts or emails from school regarding the school closures last week, please inform us at the school office so we can check your details against the school SIMS database system.
Thanks once again.
CLOSURE UPDATE
We’ve assessed the site this afternoon and while we’re aware that the main roads are open, the combination of poor conditions on the side roads, footpaths and the state of the school site itself mean we will have to stay closed tomorrow. Again, I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
On the school site, there is pack ice under the snow that we cannot make safe. The forecast is for heavy snow overnight and into the morning tomorrow. This along with the continued strong winds (which are predicted to carry on blowing between 40-50mph overnight and tomorrow) are creating snow drifts and the continued sub zero temperatures mean conditions are too severe to have any meaningful impact when trying to secure the site. The updated Yellow Warning from the Met Office for South Yorkshire means we can’t declare the site safe for children and staff.
General side roads around Walkley Primary School are reportedly difficult to pass and will make travelling to school potentially treacherous for our families. The picture across the city is similar, and the poor conditions on side roads and footpaths mean that staff will find travelling longer journeys difficult also.
As a result of all of this, we’ll have to reluctantly close tomorrow, Friday 2nd March - and I’d rather take this decision now to allow families to plan for tomorrow.
Thank you again for all of your continued support.
With huge apologies, after much consideration, we have regretfully decided to close school today, Thursday 1st March 2018 on health and safety grounds.
The school site is currently unsafe for both pupils and staff and weather conditions are not expected to improve today - further snowfall is expected early in the morning along with high winds and freezing temperatures. The roads approaching school are increasingly hazardous.
We apologise for the inconvenience that this will cause. We will also rearrange World Book Day and will be in contact separately.
Thank you again for your understanding and support.

Dear parents, carers
Due to the school being closed to children on Friday 16th February, we have organised for the delivery of the Junk Food Project market items to be available Tuesday morning from 8:30am. As usual, our Y5s will be organising and selling the items on the stall. Please remember to give what you think the items are worth to support the venture.
Dear parents and carers
Due to the school being closed to children on Friday 16th February for a Curriculum Training Day, the EYFS/KS1 Golden Assembly will now be held on Thursday 15th February at its usual time of 9:10am and will be followed by the drop-in for grown-ups.
Unfortunately, on Thursday, the KS2 hall is in use throughout the day for the whole school Chinese Dance Day Celebrations, so there will be no KS2 assembly on that day.
Many thanks for the magnificent support of your children evident through your attendance at the Golden Assemblies.
